6th & 7th of Mar’04
The group consisted of Hemanth, his better half, Nagesh (Hemu's Colleague), his better half and myself, my better half !!!!
We three couples met at the Bangalore City railway station at 0550 Hrs on saturday morning. Settled down comfortably into our respective seats and the journey began. The entire rail journey to Salem was rather cool . One thing which caught our (guyz') fancy was the fact that the babe from Convergys ,who devoured 3 vadas despite that she had a horrible sore throat. Infact, her throat was in such a bad shape that she requested Rashika (Nagesh's wife) to tell the vada vendor that she wanted 3 vadas !!! Some people never cease to amaze me :) Reached Salem at around 1000 Hrs and from the railway station, we made way to the new bus stand from where we took a bus to Yercaud. Situated at a height of 1350 mtrs above sea level, Yercaud is a beautiful hill station , the attraction of which is the lake at its center. We reached Yercaud at around 1215. First we tried to get a Hotel Shevaroys but since it was full we settled for Silver Holiday Cottages. The Cottages were really plush beautiful. After a sumptuous lunch (A striking co-incidence was that all hubbies were non-veg saavy while the wives were pure veggies !!!!) we all thought we will freshen up a bit before we head to our future ventures. At around 1600 Hrs had a cup of tea and went walking to the lake. Came to know that no one is allowed to boat after 1730 hrs, so immediately set out on 3 paddle boats. After around 45 mins of paddling around, we set out to explore Yercaud by foot. Just we had been a bit ahead when we decided that it would be better if we hail a taxi and go around. We got a taxi immediately and head off to Pagoda point. Now, this is one place which Hemanth will not forget in a long time. When the rest of us were busy munching on corn, our Hemanth got tempted by "Kache aam"!!! Well, we all started by giving CONGRATS to Pushpa and Hemanth was severly hooked ;) Of course he enjoyed it as we all took great care of the person who was having an appetite for sour things . Then we saw Gent's point where on one side the moon was rising and the other side the sun was setting . The view was absolutely tremendous. Then coming back to our rooms we had a lovely dinner. We were all chatting around till 2330 hrs after which we decided to call it a day. On Sunday morn all of us were rather lazy and slept till almost 0830 hrs.
After a breakfast made up of Masala Dosa, Onion dosa, paper dosa and poori, we went to the highest point in Yercaud - the Shevaroys Temple. The temple is situated in a cave and the other end of this cave is supposed to connect to Talacauvery, which is 470 kms away !!! 23 people attempted to cross this cave and only 3 succeeded - that's the local story which goes around. Anyway, a temple worth seeing. That was the only thing which we had left for sunday. So after the temple we checked out of our rooms, had lunch at
Shevaroys restaurant and left for Salem. From Salem we took the 1705 intercity to reach back Bangalore - after 2 days of good break which rejunevated every cell of our body .
